Tantrayukti thesis

A careful analysis of Ayurveda treatises reveals that there is a comprehensive approach regarding research. Tantrayukti is the methodology or technique or systemic approach of studying a science to interpret its correct unambiguous meaning for its practical application. Aim: Analysis of application of Tantrayukti in research methodology.

Thus, the compound Tantra-yukti denotes those devices that aid the composition of a text in a systematic manner to convey intended ideas clearly. Tantrayukti-s are given as a list in ancient texts. Some texts define and illustrate their usage in the text while others merely produce the list.

It is a text on ä yurveda written by V ä gbha ö a . In the 50th chapter of the U ttarasthāna of this work are mentioned thirty-six Tantranayukti-s. V āgbhaṭa is said have existed in the period between 3 rd and 4 th century CE. A ṣṭāṅgahṛdaya, another work by the same author, also mentions Tantrayukti-s.

Tatnrayukti was compiled possibly as early as in the 6 th century B.C.E . 14 Texts belonging to various periods and disciplines have made use of these yuktis. A chronological presentation is attempted below: It is Arthaśāstra of Kauṭilya that first gave a full-fledged treatment of Tantrayukti.
